Fact-check Yourself: The Logic of Critical Thinking,
Attention and Training for an Ecology of the Mind

 

For LogicaMente's 6th edition of World Logic Day under UNESCO’s patronage, the Patrizio Paoletti Foundation and its Research Institute for neuroscience, Education and Didactics (RINED) will present a dialogue between Patrizio Paoletti and Stefano Lasaponara of the University of Rome La Sapienza.
In this dialogue, we will explore the topic of critical thinking and how the human brain perceives and categorizes the world around us. First, it will explore how perception is shaped by external stimuli, examining the influences that the environment exerts on our sensory interpretation. Next, the concept of predictive coding will be examined, exploring whether the brain possesses the ability to consciously select what to pay attention to or whether this process is driven by mechanisms below our conscious perception. Finally, the crucial importance of training and education in shaping our perception and attention will be addressed, emphasizing the importance of underlying neural processes. The current discussion will also be in light in the Sphere Model of Consciousness and its underlying electrophysiological and neurophenomenological findings.
